Time to Replace Your Sacrificial Anode?
Your friends at Emerald Coast Marine Center share your passion for service excellence. We’re here to provide timely tips to help you keep your boat in tip-top condition.
If you’re a do-it-yourselfer or simply a boater who takes pride in his beloved craft, you know the importance of ongoing service maintenance to keep your dream machine running like a champ.
So, when’s the last time you checked your sacrificial anodes?
And … do you know what they do?
Whenever there are two different kinds of metals that are connected (whether physically or electrically) and immersed in sea water, there is an electrical current that runs between the two. A zinc anode is positioned to absorb the current. Without the zinc anode in place, you will suffer corrosion on your prop, stern drive or outboard.
TIP: Be sure to observe the condition of the sacrificial anode! If the anode is more than half dissolved, it’s time to replace it so it can do the job it was meant to perform!
